ZDNet: Manly Ferries as wireless hotspots?

ZDNet is reporting that the NSW State Transit Authority is considering installing wireless broadband access onto its ferry fleet.

According to the article, the trials are using a combination of wireless LAN hardware with an iBurst ISP connection.

I’ve actually thought about this quite a bit whilst chugging between Circular Quay and Manly. More and more people are using laptops en-route, I guess this development was only a matter of time. I’ve also wondered if anyone has tried using an Unwired modem (with battery) whilst on the ferry. An interesting experiment. Anyone game to try?

update: On a similar theme, the Google employee shuttle bus apparently has it’s own wireless access point on-board. Nice.
