Long range warfare
I saw a WWII documentary on TV last night that scared me a little. The show was mainly concentrated on the war-technologies that were developed by the Germans, specifically the V1 “flying bomb” and the V2 missile. There was also a brief mention of a project to develop a long range bomber place, capable of targeting not London, but New York. The plane, the Junkers JU 390, was developed and tested in secrecy by the Germans towards the end of the war.
The scary part was that it was said to have made a single long range test flight, coming within 12mi of New York before turning around and heading safely back to its base in Germany. I cannot begin to contemplate what may have been, had they spent some serious development time with this plane, let alone the newer v910 rockets - also capable of reaching New York - possibly carrying a nuclear payloads.
