Over the weekend it appears that Google upgraded their Google Maps service with satellite photos covering much of the Earth. Prior to the weekend, only North America and the UK were covered, with the rest of the world a blurry, uncharted mess.
Whilst local (i.e. Australian) street mapping is still unavailable, most Australian population centres now have high-res satellite views available.
Nonetheless, there’s still some fun to be had. Here’s some other points of interest I’ve found so far, available in high-res:
- Blackhead Beach: where many a Christmas has been spent
- Dangar Island: On the mighty Hawkesbury
- Third Runway: Sydney Airport
- Sydney Olympic Park: Homebush, home of the 2000 Games
