Over the weekend it appears that Google upgraded their Google Maps service with satellite photos covering much of the Earth. Prior to the weekend, only North America and the UK were covered, with the rest of the world a blurry, uncharted mess.

Whilst local (i.e. Australian) street mapping is still unavailable, most Australian population centres now have high-res satellite views available.

Sydney has most of the Western suburbs in high-res while, sadly, the CBD, Eastern and Northern Suburbs remain a low-res blur. Case in point, here’s what should be an overhead of our place in Manly.
