Chocolate Beans

Spotted a bag of raw cacao beans in an organic shop over the weekend and couldn’t help myself. Once home, we shelled and ground them, then made some nasty, gritty hot chocolate.

They smell incredible once shelled, waxy to touch. Somewhat bitter eaten raw without any sugar; I can understand why they call ground cacao beans ‘liquor’ too they tasted quite alcoholic. Much more experimenting to come.
